Description

College Farmhouse is a 15th to 16th century house located on Church Lane in Helpston. The building features two small buttresses at the north end and a chamfered four-centred arch doorway in the rear (east) wall. It was remodelled in the 18th century and is constructed from coursed stone with a steeply pitched new tile roof that has gabled ends. The house is two storeys high and has two windows, which are tripartite sashes with glazing bars and keyblocked stone heads. There is a modern glazed door to the left of centre and end brick stacks. To the right, there is a set-back wing with a large external stack on the corner and a modern conservatory. The 17th century rear (north-east) wing forms an L-shaped plan. Inside, a chamfered four-centred arch doorway in the original east wall has been revealed, along with a fireplace that has chamfered stone jambs and a chamfered timber lintel. An 18th century corner cupboard features fluted pilasters and a keyblocked arch, while the rear wing has a stopped chamfer ceiling beam.
