Description
Biggin Mill House is a 17th-century house located on Biggin Mill Lane in the parish of Biggin. The house is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings, topped with a plain tile roof and chamfered stone coped gables featuring moulded kneelers. A brick ridge stack is present.
The south elevation features an off-centre doorway with a chamfered surround, lintel, and massive stone quoins, now containing a 20th-century part-glazed door. To the left of the doorway is a three-light recessed chamfered mullion window. To the right are a two-light and a three-light recessed chamfered mullion window; the latter has been altered in the 19th century with the insertion of a window, creating a six-light opening. Further to the right is a two-light recessed chamfered mullion window. The first floor contains, from left to right, a two-light window with one light blocked, a three-light window, and a two-light window, all with recessed chamfered mullions. A 19th-century external brick stack is located to the right. The east gable has a three-light recessed chamfered mullion window at both ground and first floor levels, and a similar blocked window to the gable. Similar windows are also present on the north elevation, with some 19th-century insertions. The west gable features the stone voussoirs of a blocked carriage arch on the ground floor, likely inserted in the early 19th century when this part of the house was used as outbuildings.
