Description
The monument to John Clare is a Grade II listed structure erected in 1864 in memory of the poet John Clare, who was born and buried in the village. This Victorian Gothic monument is made of ashlar stone. It features a square pedestal set on a ramped base, with a diagonally placed pier above that has buttresses. At the top, there is a circular shaft with a conical top and a finial. The pedestal is decorated with quatrefoil panels that display quotations from Clare's poems.
