Description
The well head at the junction with Grange Street, later converted into a war memorial, dates from 1881, which is inscribed in the fretwork of the well head. It features a plaque commemorating those who served in World Wars I and II. The structure is made of timber, painted to resemble oak, with the lower part of the roof covered in plain and fishscale tiles, while the upper part has diamond-shaped slates. Designed in a picturesque style, it includes a small square shelter with a hipped lower roof and an upper part adorned with gablets, topped by a small lantern with a spire. The gablets and lantern feature fretwork decoration and wrought iron finials. Inside the well head, there is a gabled wood casing surmounted by a small embattled lantern. On the north side, a large ashlar tablet displays the names of parishioners who fell in the Great Wars, topped by a small bronze plaque.
