Description

Clifton House is a house built in the late 18th century and early 19th century, with later additions and alterations from the late 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features clay tile roofs. The original building has a double-pile plan with a two-span roof and stands two storeys tall. To the north, it has been extended by a three-storey block of the same height, along with additional two-storey sections further north.

The main block's front elevation has a five-window range, all of which are sashes without glazing bars, set under slightly cambered gauged brick heads. The central entrance features a Doric doorcase with part-glazed double doors, a moulded surround, fluted pilasters, a frieze with triglyphs, and a segmental pediment. Above, there is a dentilled brick cornice topped by a plain parapet. The rear elevation includes two canted bay windows flanking a doorway similar to the front. The first floor has three segmental-headed recesses with sash windows, with the outer ones being tripartite. There is a rendered first-floor band and cornice.

Inside, some of the front ground-floor rooms have panelling, and the rear ground-floor room features a plasterwork ceiling and an Adam style fireplace. There is also an ornamental ironwork staircase from the early to mid-19th century.
