Description
Clifton Manor House and Court House is a building that has its origins in the 17th century but has been significantly extended and altered in the 19th century. The original structure is timber framed, while the later additions are made of yellow brick. The Manor House, which includes the original part, features colourwashed roughcast render, whereas the Manzie, a 19th-century wing, is entirely constructed of brick. Both sections have clay tile roofs.
The Manor House has a complex U-shaped plan, while the Manzie is an L-shaped block to the north. It is two storeys high. On the south elevation of the Manor House, the original part consists of a central block with small two-storeyed projecting gables at each end. To the left is a large projecting gable from the 19th century, and the right end has also been altered and slightly extended during the 19th century. The building features a variety of windows, including some sash windows on the first floor, and two French windows in the main block, with the right one having a 20th-century porch. There are three red brick ridge stacks, with one substantial off-centre stack.
Inside, the southeast ground floor room boasts a 19th-century carved wood fire-surround supported by atlantes and featuring an ornate mantelshelf in a heavy Rococo style.
