Description

The gate piers and screen at the main entrance to Old Warden Park were built around 1874 by Henry Clutton for Joseph Shuttleworth. They are made of dressed limestone and consist of four piers with chamfered angles, moulded tops, and ball finials featuring strapwork decoration. The two main gate piers are larger and have more elaborate mouldings at the top, including a foliate frieze, a ball frieze, and a miniature embattled parapet. These main piers are topped with spherical wrought iron and glass lamps. The upper part of the screen features square-headed arcading and moulded coping. The gates are from the 20th century.
