Description

Nos 69 and 71 on Sundon Road in Harlington are a pair of cottages that date from the late 17th century to early 18th century. They are constructed with roughcast over a timber frame, set on a brick plinth. The gable roofs are covered with plain tiles, with No 69 on the left featuring 20th-century tiles and No 71 on the right having older tiles. Both cottages have brick ridge stacks and are arranged in a 4-unit plan, standing one storey high with an attic and a four-window range.

The front of No 69 has a mid-20th-century door with a flat rendered arch above it, along with mid-20th-century two to three-light windows. In contrast, No 71 has a 19th-century plank door and late 19th-century two to three-light casement windows set in moulded wood architraves. Both cottages feature four gabled dormers.

On the rear elevation, No 69 retains an early 19th-century horizontal-sliding sash window, two late 18th to early 19th-century two-light iron casements, and an early 19th-century six-panelled door. The interior of No 69 showcases an exposed timber frame with light scantling, tabled scarfs to the wall plates, chamfered beams, and late 17th to early 18th-century plank doors with original strap hinges and latches leading to two quarter-turn stairs with winders. No 71 has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
