Description
Portobello Farmhouse is a house that underwent reworking in the 18th century, built around an earlier structure. It features red brick that encases and extends a timber-framed core, with some parts of the ground floor made of coursed sandstone rubble. The rear elevation has colourwashed render on part of the first floor, and the roof is covered with clay tiles.
The farmhouse has a four-window range, is two storeys tall with attics, and on the east elevation, the ground floor has three windows while the first floor has four windows. All windows are sashes with moulded flush frames and glazing bars. The attic features four gabled dormers with two-light casements. The central doorway has a 20th-century glazed door topped by a rectangular fanlight, which is sheltered by a 19th-century canopied trelliswork hood, the upper section of the original porch. There is a brick band at the first floor level and two red brick multiple ridge stacks that were rebuilt in the 19th century. The rear elevation has lean-to additions, one storey high and one storey with attics, featuring a variety of casement windows and doors.
