Description
The Church Hall, originally built as a school between 1845 and 1848, was founded by Reverend W C Bidwell and financed through public subscriptions. The building features walls made of small, elongated pieces of ironstone arranged in a herringbone pattern, with dressings of red and yellow mottled brick, and some ashlar work on the porch. It has a clay tiled roof accented with bands of fishscale tiles and is a single-storey rectangular structure.
The front elevation facing the road has three 3-light mullion and transom windows. A gabled porch, which extends above the eaves line, is positioned between the two left-hand windows and features a 4-centred doorway with a plank door. The gable is stone-coped, complete with kneelers and a finial. To the right, there is a smaller 4-centred doorway, also with a plank door, sheltered by a gabled hood supported by brackets. The right gable end showcases a large 4-light mullion and transom window, topped by a cambered relieving arch, along with a narrow single light window at the attic apex. A 20th-century addition is located at the rear. The building is included for its group value and for its distinctive treatment of materials characteristic of this area of the county.
