Description
St Mary's House is a house that was formerly a vicarage. It dates from the 18th century and was extended and altered in the 19th century. The original structure is made of red brick, some of which is flared, with lighter red brick dressings and clay tile roofs. The later addition is built from red and yellow brick, partly rendered, and has a slate roof. The original part of the house is two storeys high with a hipped roof. The later additions to the east create a plan that is two rooms deep.
On the west elevation, there is a five-window facade, with two sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor and two on the left side of the ground floor. The ground floor also features a projecting rectangular bay with two sash windows with glazing bars. The attic has two box dormers that contain sash windows with glazing bars. The central entrance has a six-panel door topped by a semi-circular fanlight, framed by a simple round-arched surround with a projecting keyblock and a 20th-century brick open porch. A 19th-century chimney stack is located at the rear, where it meets the 19th-century block.
