Description
The temple on the island in Lower Drakeloe Pond is an ornamental structure built in the 'Chinese Gothick' style, dating from around 1749 or earlier. It is made of painted timber, which was originally partly gilded. This single-storey open octagonal building features a three-stage swept-out pagoda-style roof supported by eight slender columns adorned with bands of painted decoration. The structure includes ogee arches, each with a shallow step at the midpoint of the haunch. The spandrels are decorated with moulded painted flowers, and the roof still shows traces of its original painted decoration.
