Description
Lion Lodge is the entrance lodge to Woburn Abbey, located at the center of Woburn village. It was built in the late 18th century, likely for Francis, the 5th Duke of Bedford. The lodge is constructed of stucco and features a slate roof, with a shallow stone parapet and coping on the gables. It is a low, single-storey rectangular building with the gable end facing the road.
On the west elevation, there is a central bay that slightly projects and has a pediment, which contains a 2-light casement window with glazing bars. To the left, there is a projecting polygonal bay, also featuring casements with glazing bars. To the right of the pedimented bay, there is a panelled door and two 2-light horizontal sash windows with glazing bars. A stuccoed double ridge stack is present on the roof. The gable facing the road has a doorway and a wrought iron lamp that projects from the pediment.
