Description
No. 53 High Street is a house that dates from the 18th and 19th centuries, likely incorporating elements of an earlier structure. The left side features colourwashed roughcast, while the right side is covered in weatherboarding, probably over some timber framing. The building has hipped clay tile roofs and is arranged in an L-plan over two storeys with attics.
On the ground floor, there is a canted bay window on the left-hand side, which has an architrave and a modillion cornice. This bay, along with the two ground floor windows on the right and the four first floor windows, all contain sashes with glazing bars. The entrance features an eight-panel door topped by a rectangular fanlight with ornamental glazing bars, flanked by fluted pilasters that support a moulded cornice. The eaves have a moulded and coved wood cornice. The building has a colourwashed multiple ridge stack, and the side block facing the road has a substantial multiple ridge stack and small box dormers.
