Description
The Swan Hotel is an early to mid 19th century building located on the south side of High Street in Leighton Buzzard. It features a stucco front with a parapet and stands three storeys tall. The façade is accentuated by tall Doric angle pilasters and an eaves level with a tablature that includes an ornate frieze. There is a central opening in the parapet designed for a statue of a swan. The building has a slight central projection and is arranged with two one-window sections flanking a central three-light sash window, all of which have glazing bars and are set in architrave surrounds. The first-floor windows are adorned with entablatures supported by consoles. A Greek Ionic porch leads to the entrance and is complemented by cast iron railings on the balcony and between the porch columns. Above the door, there is a rectangular fanlight. To the left, there is a one-window wing that includes a carriageway. The Swan Hotel forms part of a group with Nos 2 to 6 (even) Market Square.
