Description

Nos 56 to 59 on High Street are a row of four cottages from the Southill Estate, believed to have been a former poor house, with a plaque reading "W H W 1864". The cottages have a four-room plan and are two storeys high with attics. They are constructed of red brick and feature a clay tile gambrel roof. The front elevation is divided into five bays by brick pilaster strips. Both the ground and first floors have four 3-light wood mullion and transom windows with leaded lights. The attic includes four box dormers with 2-light leaded casements. The central bay is occupied by a gabled porch that has a pair of doorways with cambered heads and part-glazed doors. Each gable end has a single porch in a similar style. There are also two red brick multiple ridge stacks.
