Description
The General Stores is a Grade II listed cottage located on the south side of High Street in Southill. It is part of the Southill Estate and features a shop within one ground floor room. Although a plaque indicates "S W 1815," the building is likely a reworking of an earlier structure. The exterior is finished with colourwashed roughcast render over a timber frame and has a clay tile roof. The building consists of a two-room block to the west, with a cross-wing at the eastern end. It is one storey high with attics and has various later single-storey additions to the east and rear.
The eastern gable includes a three-light window that serves the shop, along with a round-headed leaded casement window in the attic. The west block features a two-light leaded casement window and a plank door leading to the east block. Additionally, the west block has a six flush panel door topped with a gabled hood supported by cut brackets. A single red brick ridge stack is present on the west block.
