Description
No. 9 Church End is a house that was formerly three cottages of the Ongley estate, built in the early 19th century. It has colourwashed roughcast rendered walls and a thatched roof. The building features a cottage ornee design with a three-room plan, one storey and attics, and rounded ends to the west and east, which provide additional ground floor space. There are four casement windows on the ground floor and four eyebrow dormers with casements above, all featuring two pointed-arched lights under a round head. The ground floor windows retain their leaded lights. The house has three thatched trellis porches that are linked to form a verandah. The central doorway contains a 20th-century glazed door, while two flanking doorways have been blocked. There are two ridge stacks with red brick bases and a variety of Tudor-style pots with embattled tops. A 20th-century lean-to addition has been added to the rear.
