Description
Nos 1 and 2 Church End are a pair of estate cottages that were originally one house, dating from the 17th century and reworked in 1879 for the Shuttleworth Estate, as indicated by a plaque. The cottages are constructed with timber framing and feature colourwashed roughcast render along with applied timber frame decoration. They have clay tile roofs adorned with decorative ridge tiles.
The building has a three-room plan and consists of two storeys and attics, with various later additions at the rear. The style is described as cottage ornee. On the south elevation, there are two three-light windows and one four-light window on the ground floor, along with three two-light windows on the first floor. The roof includes three gabled dormers, each with two-light windows, all featuring cast iron lattice casements.
There is a tiled gabled open porch topped with a terracotta finial, and the entrance includes a flush panel door set within a moulded surround. The building is also distinguished by two ridge stacks that have a variety of Tudor-style embattled chimney pots.
