Description

The game larders located immediately north of the Chinese Dairy are two adjoining structures, likely built in the early to mid 19th century, with the southern larder appearing to be the oldest. The southern game larder features mostly red and white painted timber on the exterior, similar to the Chinese Dairy, and has a slate roof. It is a small, single-storey square building with a cross-gabled roof and a sloping-roofed verandah that surrounds all sides. The verandah is supported by timber columns with moulded bases and capitals and is completely enclosed by plain trelliswork between the columns. The west, north, and east elevations have decorative trelliswork doors. The main structure includes part glazed double doors aligned with the verandah doors, along with fixed lights featuring glazing bars—two on the west and east elevations and three on the south elevation. Each gable attic has a segmental-arched window. Inside, there is a stone flagged floor, and it appears to retain an ice pit beneath. The Chinese Dairy covered way is adjacent to the south.

The northern game larder, which adjoins to the north, is constructed of colourwashed brick and has a conical slate roof. It features a small single-storey circular window and eight French windows topped with rectangular fanlights. The southern French window opens onto the southern game larder, while the others lead to the exterior and have panelled full-length shutters. The roof is topped with a small circular dovecote that has two tiers of openings and a leaded roof. Internally, this larder has ceramic tiles on the walls, octagonal tiles on the floors, and a central timber pier.
