Description
Newbury Manor is a house dating from the late 16th century, likely built by a member of the Daniell family. It was reworked in the 19th century. The structure is made of red brick with ashlar dressings, and some areas are rendered with ashlar. The roofs are covered with clay tiles. The building has a complex plan, originally consisting of a hall block and cross-wings, with 19th-century gables added to the rear and side elevations. It stands two storeys high with attics.
The front elevation faces southwest and features three stone-coped gables, with the central gable being smaller than the others. There are string courses at both the first and second floors. The facade includes a three-window range, with mullioned and transomed windows on the ground and first floors, and mullioned windows in the attic. The central entrance, rebuilt in the 19th century, has an ashlar keystone and impost bands, and is set within a round-headed doorway that is located in a three-centred arched recess. The entrance features round-headed double doors with six panels. Above the doorway is a square plaque with a worn shield.
The house has red brick external chimneys on the side elevations, topped with moulded paired octagonal stacks. The left-hand side elevation includes two blind round-headed archways. The interior has been altered and is rather plain. Originally, the house was surrounded by a rectangular moat, which is now partly infilled.
