Description

This is a row of three houses located on Bedford Street, dating back to the earlier 18th century with an early 19th-century refronting of earlier 17th-century buildings. Numbers 8 and 9 are now a single property and are faced with yellow brick, while number 10 has an earlier red brick facade with chequerwork patterning created using vitrified headers. The three houses share a steep-pitched clay tile roof, which is half-hipped to the right-hand end.

Numbers 8 and 9 are arranged symmetrically with two bays. They have two sashes with glazing bars on both the ground and first floors, each set under a gauged brick flat arch. The attic has two box dormers containing casements with glazing bars. Both doorways have doors consisting of six flush panels, set within simply moulded architraves, topped with moulded cornice hoods supported by cut brackets. A brick band runs along the first-floor level.

Number 10 has three bays. A carriage arch is located on the left-hand side with a gauged brick elliptical head and timber gates. The centre has a 19th-century canted bay with glazing bars. The right-hand bay has a sash window with glazing bars under a gauged brick flat arch. The first floor has three sashes with glazing bars, the left-hand one being smaller. The windows of numbers 8 and 9, and these first-floor windows, retain moulded flush frames. The doorway between the two right-hand bays of number 10 is similar to those of numbers 8 and 9, but the door has glazing to the top lights. A brick band is also present at the first-floor level of number 10, and a brick multiple chimney is visible.
