Description
The Church of St Andrew, built between 1889 and 1890 by J R Brown and Son, is an aisless church designed in the Early English style with decorative elements. It is constructed from Luton grey brick with limestone dressings and features a plain tile roof. The church includes transepts and a chancel, as well as a steep hipped roof bell turret at the west end, which has trefoiled lights on each face beneath overhanging eaves. The windows have plate tracery, displaying two trefoils below a quatrefoil between the nave buttresses. A half-timbered south porch adds to its character, and there are three lancet windows at the east end. Inside, the church has brick dressings and a waggon roof in the chancel. A notable feature is the five-bay limestone reredos with marble shafting. The church was founded by the Crawley family, and there is contemporary memorial stained glass dedicated to them.
