Description
Stockwood House Stable Block is a mid-18th century building featuring a five-bay, two-storey design. It is constructed of brick with brick quoins and dressings, complemented by stone imposts and copings. The central bay slightly projects from the lower wings and includes a raised second storey above a tall round-headed coach arch, which has a round window and an open pediment above a brick band. Atop the shallow slate roof sits an open domed cupola supported by slender columns. The side bays are made of rendered brick, which is somewhat exposed, and are connected to the central bay by ramped parapets. The terminal bays also project slightly and feature blind semi-circular windows on the ground floor. The left wing has a window with two wooden mullions, while the wings are adorned with a brick band and parapets. The roofs are slate, with nipped ends over the terminal bays. Inside the block, there is a 19th-century two-storey brick wing. The building features segmental arches with stone imposts and bases, as well as bevelled reveals for these and the cambered arch-headed hay loft windows. The stable block is set around a cobbled yard.
