Description
Queen Anne's Summerhouse is an isolated building, likely a hunting lodge, with plaques displaying the Shuttleworth emblem and the years 1876 or 1878, although the plaques are somewhat eroded. The structure is made of gauged red brick with artificial stone dressings and has a small square plan with circular corner turrets. The west elevation features remnants of a wooden door surround that once included rusticated plasters supporting a segmental pediment, which housed a semi-circular fanlight above a door with moulded octagonal panels. Each of the other three elevations has a round-headed window with an artificial stone keystone and imposts. All elevations are topped with a balustraded parapet made of artificial stone, and the turrets have plain coping in the same material. Inside, the southwest turret shows evidence of a former staircase leading to the flat roof, while the southeast turret contains a plain fireplace.
