Description

Boundary Cottage is a house dating from around the 16th or 17th century. It has a rendered brick facade on a timber frame, with a Welsh slate roof and gabled ends. Rendered brick axial and gable end stacks are present. The house was originally a 3-bay frame. The right and left bays contained heated rooms with gable end stacks – the right-hand stack has since been removed. The central bay originally contained a small room at the front, an axial passage, and a staircase against the rear wall. A through passage now connects the central and left bays, and a 20th-century extension has been added to the right (north-west) side. A small, circa late 19th-century outshut is located at the centre of the rear.

The north-east front has an asymmetrical 6-window arrangement. The windows are mostly 20th-century casements with leaded panes. A 20th-century panelled door and bay window are located to the right of the centre, and the 20th-century extension features a garage on the ground floor and two casements above. The rear of the house has various casement windows, and a small, single-storey outshut is positioned at the centre, alongside brick stacks.

Inside the left-hand room, there are unchamfered cross-beams supporting chamfered axial beams, a 20th-century fireplace, and an exposed studwork partition. The right-hand room features a chamfered axial beam with hollow step stops, exposed unchamfered joists, and an inserted passage partition. Upstairs, exposed jowled posts, tie-beams with curved braces, and some exposed studding are visible. The roof space is inaccessible.
