Description

The Homestead is a house dating from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The western part of the house has an exposed timber frame, filled in with painted brick in the west gable. The front and rear are roughcast, but the rear ground floor is painted brick. Painted brick is also visible in the north gable of the higher western part, which appears to have been designed for 2½ storeys, indicated by tie rod plates. The house has steep old red tile roofs, with a corrugated iron roof to a lean-to on the east end.

Originally a house of a three-unit plan with an internal chimney and a former lobby-entry, a staircase was added to the rear of the chimney stack. The house faces north and is two storeys high, with the western part raised to 2½ storeys. The roof slopes steeply over the western part and extends behind the large cruciform chimney stack, also covering the staircase. There are two windows in the upper part of the west front, and one in the east part. A gabled porch is located at the beginning of the west part, with two ground-floor windows to the west. Three ground-floor windows are on the east part. The windows are generally casements with two lights, though the first floor of the east part has windows with three lights.
