Description

Old Forge Cottage is an early 19th-century house located on the east side of Markyate High Street. It is a two-storey, three-window-wide building constructed of plum brick with some grey bricks. Architectural details include flat gauged arches, a stucco plinth, and a slated roof. The house follows a double-pile symmetrical plan, with a chimney located at the south end gable. The west front features flush-box sash windows with 6/6 panes. The central doorway has a contemporary wooden surround with reeded details, corner blocks, paterae, and a moulded open pediment. The door itself is six-panelled, with the two lower panels flush-beaded and the upper panels glazed. The reveals are panelled, with the lower section flush-beaded and the upper section featuring fielded panels.
