Description

This large house, now divided into three separate properties, likely began as an older building with a substantial early 18th-century front. A five-window-wide north extension and a two-window-wide south extension are probably from the 18th century, while an early 19th-century, taller rear wing sits at right angles to the main front. A 19th-century flint wing, linked to the front range in the 20th century, is located at the northwest. The central and northern sections are probably timber-framed and originally brick-fronted, now rendered with roughcast under smooth stucco dressings. The roof is covered in old red tiles, with slate coverings to the rear extensions.

The house is a long, two-story block, and its complex construction history is revealed through its stepped arrangement, sloping down from north to south across three levels, each with differing floor heights. A taller rear wing has an attic gable window visible above the front range. The east front has a wooden eaves cornice, a plat-band to the middle and right-hand sections, a stucco plinth, and a doorway in the left end of the middle section. The fenestration consists of 2, 4, and 5 windows at the first floor, with the two right-hand windows being false. The windows are recessed sash windows with 6/6 panes, and they are progressively taller from north to south. Ground-floor windows are set within stucco flat arches composed of seven voussoirs, where the keystone and the second and sixth voussoirs project. There are three stone steps leading to a divided door with four fielded panels, a triangular fanlight, narrow sidelights, and a doorcase featuring half-fluted pilasters, an entablature, and a triangular open pediment.
