Description
The White Hart is a public house that has been converted into a private house. It was rebuilt in 1905 after suffering partial destruction from a fire and was transformed into a private residence between 1965 and 1971. The building is constructed of plum brick with red dressings and red rubbed arches, topped with a steep slate roof. It stands two storeys high, with a basement and attics, and is two windows wide, situated on an acute angled corner site, with a prominent canted south end that enhances the street scene.
The front of the building is symmetrical, featuring two box dormers added to the roofslope. A central plastered recess displays the name 'THE WHITE HART' in decorative relief lettering above a central door, which has a rectangular fanlight and a four-panel door that has been renewed. On the first floor, there are two 2-light transomed casement windows beneath flat gauged arches, with small panes above the moulded transoms and plastered reveals. The ground floor features two larger 3-light windows with acid etched decorative obscured glass panels in the lower lights. Additionally, there is one recessed sash window on each floor at the south end, with 6/6 panes and flat gauged arches. The building is included for its group value.
