Description
Nos 17 and 18 on Warden Road is a house that was formerly two properties belonging to the Southill Estate. It dates from the 17th century and 18th century. The earlier south cross-wing is timber framed, covered with colourwashed roughcast render, and has a clay tile roof. The later north block is made of red brick, featuring a chequered brick front elevation and also has a clay tile roof. The building has a T-plan layout, with the north block having two storeys and attics, while the south block has one storey and attics.
On the west elevation, the brick block includes a first-floor brick band, two box dormers, and two windows on each of the first and ground floors, all of which are 2-light leaded casements. There are two plank doors, with the right-hand one being a later addition. The left-hand door and the two ground floor windows have flat brick heads, which are recessed slightly under flat brick arches with rounded angles. A red brick external stack is located at the north gable end. The cross-wing features a ground floor bay window with glazing bars and a 2-light leaded casement in the attic, along with a brick double ridge stack.
