Description
Glebe House is a house associated with the Southill Estate, built in the late 18th century, possibly incorporating an earlier structure, with mid and late 19th century additions. The building is primarily constructed of red brick and features clay tile roofs, with the most recent addition made of mottled yellow brick. The main block is two storeys high and follows a three-room plan, with a lower two-storey block projecting from the rear. Mid 19th century additions can be found at both gable ends of the main block and within the rear angle, while a late 19th century addition is located at the gable end of the rear block.
The west elevation of the main block presents a symmetrical facade. The ground floor features two Venetian windows, while the first floor has two sash windows with flat heads, flanking a Diocletian window that has a moulded keystone. All sash windows include glazing bars and gauged brick heads. A central trelliswork verandah with a leaded sloping hood is present, within which is a flush panel door set in a moulded surround, accompanied by a rectangular fanlight and single light windows on either side. The building is topped with a wood modillion eaves cornice and has projecting multiple brick stacks at both gable ends. Most of the windows are sash, while the late 19th century block features casement windows. The 18th century rear wing has a substantial multiple ridge stack, indicating that it may have earlier origins than the 18th century.
