Description

A row of houses located on Elstow High Street, dating back to the 16th century or earlier, with subsequent work in the 17th and 18th centuries, and restoration in 1976-77. The houses are timber-framed, mostly with colourwashed plaster infill, though number 16 is weatherboarded. They have clay tile roofs. Three properties form a two-storey row facing the road, with numbers 12 and 14 forming a one-storey and attics block that projects to the north. Rooflines and frontages vary slightly. Number 15 exhibits the most substantial and earliest timbering, featuring a jettied first floor supported by 18th-century brackets. Windows are mainly 20th-century casements with glazing bars, although number 16 retains some original casements with leaded lights. The front doors are 20th-century replacements. A rebuilt brick ridge stack is located on number 16. The north elevation of numbers 12 and 14 has lighter timbering, with 20th-century doors and windows, and three gabled dormers. Two rebuilt red brick ridge stacks are also present.
