Description

The Swan Public House is a 16th-century public house situated on Elstow High Street. It is a timber-framed building with colourwashed roughcast render to the ground floor, red brick herringbone infill, and coursed limestone rubble to the ground floor of the north gable end. The roof is tiled with clay. The main two-storey, three-room block bordering the road has a jettied first floor. A single-storey block with attics projects from the rear. The front elevation features a moulded bressumer to the jetty, with the right-hand room's jetty being at a higher level than the rest. The ground floor has two 20th-century canted bays, three small casement windows, and two 20th-century doors. The first floor has two three-light casement windows flanking a four-light casement. One brick ridge stack and one external stack to the north gable end are present. The rear block incorporates a 19th-century canted bay with sash windows containing glazing bars and two gabled dormers with casement windows.
