Description
No. 174 High Street is a house dating from the 16th century. It features a timber frame, with parts rendered in roughcast and others in pebbledash, topped by a clay tile roof. The building has a three-room plan and stands two storeys high, with a jettied first floor. At the rear, there is a two-storey block that projects outwards. On the ground floor, there are two three-light casement windows and one single fixed light. The first floor has three three-light casement windows. The central front door consists of six flush panels. The jettied section, which begins at a slightly higher level on the southern bay, has moulded soffits supported by three brackets. The eaves are sprocketed, and there is a rebuilt red brick integral stack on the northern gable end.
