Description
This is a pair of cottages situated in Knotting Green. They were originally built as part of the Bedford Estate in 1868, but their appearance suggests subsequent alterations circa the turn of the 20th century. The ground floor is constructed of red brick, the first floor is rendered with exposed timber framing, and the roof is covered in old clay tiles. A large, central chimney stack serves both cottages, and a modern extension is located at the rear.
The cottages are one storey high with attic accommodation. The front elevation is symmetrical, with windows for both cottages grouped together and front doors positioned to either side, each sheltered by a sloping porch supported on straight brackets. On the ground floor, each cottage has two-light casement windows with glazing bars. The first floor slightly overhangs a dentil course storey band. An attic dormer, featuring two two-light casement windows, is contained within a half-hipped projecting roof. The roofline extends along the side elevations, where a five-light window is set within the gable.
