Description

The monument to Sir Robert Darling is a chest tomb dating from around 1770, located 1.5 meters from the southeast corner of the chancel at St. Nicholas Church. It features a moulded base and has a tablet in the center of each face, although all the inscriptions have been obliterated. The tablets on the long sides are flanked by pilasters that have scalloped bases and fluted columns, with an egg and dart frieze at the capital. The cover of the tomb is heavily gadrooned and was originally topped with a stone urn and flame, which have since been removed.
