Description

Sayers Almshouses are a group of six almshouses located on the north side of Lower Park in Bewdley. They were founded in 1625, rebuilt in 1897, and restored in the early 1980s. The buildings are constructed of brick with stone dressings and feature a machine tile roof with stacks along the ridge.

The almshouses are two storeys high and have a moulded stone cornice beneath a stone-coped parapet, which includes a central inscribed stone tablet detailing the history of the foundation. The structure features a symmetrical arrangement of windows, with four on each side of the central section that is slightly advanced. Each window is a two-light design with a four-centred arch above each light and a square label.

On the ground floor, there are two sets of paired windows, with entrances located at the left and right-hand corners, and additional entrances between each pair of windows, making a total of six entrances. Each entrance has a stone surround with a four-centred arch and label, blind fanlights, and 20th-century ledged and boarded doors.
