Description

This is a probable late 15th-century building that was refaced in the early 18th century, with later 20th-century alterations. It forms part of a larger medieval house, with the remaining bays now making up properties at 1 and 2 Sandy Bank. The building is timber-framed and faced with brick, and has a tile roof. It is two storeys high with an attic space, which is lit by a gabled dormer window. A decorative band runs across the face of the building between each floor. The windows include a 3-light casement under a segmental head on the upper floor, and a 16-pane boxed sash window on the ground floor. The entrance, approached by two brick steps, is framed by a wooden architrave, a segmental head, a triangular canopy on wooden brackets, and has a ledged and boarded door. Timber framing is exposed in the left-hand gable, showing four struts to the collar with V-struts above, and clasped purlins.
