Description

Burlton's Almshouses are a group of almshouses founded in 1645, substantially rebuilt in the late 18th century, and restored in 1972. The building is constructed of brick with a hipped tile roof and ridge stacks. It is arranged in an L-shape, with ranges extending to the north-east and south-east. The north-west front, facing the street, is two storeys high and includes a dentil brick cornice and a chamfered brick plinth. It has two, one, and then two windows, with the central bay slightly projecting. The upper floor has 2-light casements from the 20th century; the ground floor has four 2-light casements under segmental arches. A central entrance is set within a basket-arched recess. The entrance itself features a basket arch with stone impost blocks, and leads to a passageway. The entrances to the individual almshouses are located at the rear.
