Description

Japonica Cottage is an early 17th-century house made of painted rubble stone with a tiled roof. The house underwent alterations in the 18th century and features a two-storey addition from the early 19th century on the west side. The original structure has a timber frame and is one storey with an attic, which includes two 19th-century dormers and modern and 19th-century casement windows on the ground floor. There is a leaded casement window in the gable end. Inside, there is evidence of a floor that was added in the 18th century, along with an 18th-century winding stair. The narrow west end bay is likely a smoke bay. At the rear, there is a 19th-century brick outshut, and the west end has a slate roof with one range of windows and a gabled hood over the door.
