Description
Church Croft is a house from the early to mid 18th century, built of squared coursed blue lias stone and topped with a modern hipped plain tile roof. It is two stories high with an attic, featuring three hipped dormers on the south front and two on the east side. There are stacks on the west end wall and the rear wall. The house has a raised plinth and a moulded limestone eaves cornice. The double fronted design includes a three-window range with glazing bar sashes, where the outer windows are four panes wide and the central window is three panes wide. The central arched door is enhanced by a radiating bar fanlight and a six-panel door, all framed by an open pediment Doric doorcase with fluted pilasters and panelled reveals.
On the east side, there are three windows with raised keystones, one of which features Gothick intersecting glazing bars. At the rear, there is a one and a half storey service and dovecote range, also made of blue lias stone and covered with a plain tile roof. This section includes two gabled dormers, a six-panel door, and one ground floor window. The dovecote has a plain wall and a small lantern on the ridge. Beyond this, there is a barn range constructed of stone with a corrugated roof, featuring five closely spaced bays supported by tie-beam and collar trusses with angle struts.
