Description
58 Newlands is a house, now subdivided, that likely dates from the early 17th century but has been significantly altered in the mid to late 19th century and afterwards. The exterior is roughcast with a plain tile roof featuring barge boards. There is a brick stack at the right end and a central external stone stack with a brick chimney at the rear.
The building is two storeys high and has three gabled bays, with the center bay being lower and narrower. A rear wing, which is dated 1836, is also present. The windows are three-light, with 3/3/3-pane configurations and 2-pane metal casements, each featuring hoodmoulds and projecting sills. To the left of the right-hand bay, the entrance is framed by an architrave with decorative pilasters and bulbous capitals. It has an enriched leaded hood with a serpentine motif, a panelled reveal, a decorative fanlight, and a six-panel door, accessed by two stone steps.
At the rear, there is a timber-framed gable on the left side, while the right section is partly stuccoed and adjoins the brick wing from 1836. The left return has had doors and windows inserted in 1990. The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have some exposed chamfered beams.
