Description
39, 41, and 43 Newlands are a row of three cottages dating from the 17th century, with later alterations. They feature square-panel timber-framing with painted brick nogging set on a deep rendered plinth, along with brick wings. The cottages have a renewed plain tile roof, which includes a brick ridge stack to the left of center and a heightened stack at the right end.
The exterior is two storeys high, comprising three framed bays, which are now one bay for each cottage, and originally included a cross-passage. There are two wings at the rear. The cottages have renewed 6/6-pane metal-framed casement windows, with the left bay featuring windows of 8/8 panes that cut into the timber-framing. At the first-floor level, there is a 20th-century asphalted pentice. Each bay has a 20th-century entrance door; the left side of the central bay features a 19th-century plank door with a decorative grille above, leading to a through-passage. The interior has not been inspected.
