Description
The Talbot Inn is an inn that likely dates back to the 16th century, with significant alterations and additions made in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It features painted brick in Flemish bond, with some timber-framing visible on the right side wall and inside. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has brick dentilled eaves, along with brick end stacks, one of which is external on the right.
The building has two storeys and a cellar, presenting a four-window range with a one-storey added bay on the right and a rear wing. On the first floor, there are 20th-century two-over-two pane casement windows beneath gauged brick flat arches. In the centre, an inn sign is hung from a decorative wrought-iron bracket. The ground floor has two 20th-century six-pane windows on the left, and on the right, there is a large 15-pane window under a gauged brick flat arch. The near-central entrance features an architrave, a bracketed leaded hood, a six-panel door, and two stone steps, along with a deep plinth that has a cellar grille on the left. The added bay includes a carriage entrance with double plank doors.
Inside, the main range's right return reveals an exposed external brick fireplace with a timber lintel, a chimney breast, and at a higher level, an inserted grate. The walling consists of stone, brick, and timber-framing, with some areas being square-panelled and others close-studded, along with exposed roof timbers. The interior also showcases exposed spine beams, some of which are chamfered, and there are display panels that reveal rubble and tile mortared infill and wattle and daub. A large remodelled open fireplace features a heavy-scantling timber lintel.
