Description

Bankside is a house dating from the 17th century, with possible earlier remains. It features a combination of limestone rubble and timber-framing, topped with a stone slate roof. The main range has two storeys and an attic, with a two-storey cross-wing on the right side. The main range includes a ground floor window with three lights, which has rebated and chamfered mullions, along with similar windows of one and three lights on the first floor. On the left side of the ground floor, there is a moulded one-light window with a trefoiled head, likely from the 15th century and re-used. The attic has a gabled dormer.

At the right, where the cross-wing meets the main range, there is a single-storey porch with a hipped roof and a doorway featuring plain reveals. The cross-wing is adorned with two string courses. On the ground floor, it has a canted bay window set on a stone base, while the first floor features a three-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window. The front gable of the wing is coped and has a chimney with a cyma cornice, along with additional chimneys at the rear of the wing and on the left side of the main range.

The lower drip course extends along the right-hand (east) wall of the wing, which has a two-light mullioned window on the first floor. To the right, the stonework appears irregular, and the timber-framing, consisting of light scantling in two rows of square panels, is partly exposed, indicating that an adjoining building has been demolished.
