Description
Mellowstone is a house that may date back to the 17th century, with 19th-century additions and a facade that was rebuilt in the early 20th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys with an attic and consists of three bays. The windows are from the 20th century and have ovolo-moulded mullions. The ground floor windows include one-light windows with a transom and three-light windows with a transom. The first floor has two, three, and two-light windows, with a gable above the middle window. There are two attic dormers. The door, located in the right-hand bay, has an ovolo-moulded timber surround set within a moulded stone surround with an elliptical head. The house has end chimneys and a third chimney located towards the centre of the ridge. A picture postcard from the Francis Frith Collection, dated 1899, shows the house with an ashlar lean-to addition at the front, featuring 19th-century windows and a gabled wing that projects forward on the right. The property is included for its group value.
