Description

Thorn Farmhouse is likely a 16th-century farmhouse, with alterations made in the early 19th century and the 20th century. It is timber-framed and stands on a sandstone plinth, with sections of brick plinth, ashlar, and brickwork, all topped by a tile roof. The house has an H-shaped layout, with a hall range running north to south, a central stack located north of the centre, a timber-framed north cross-wing, and an ashlar south cross-wing.

The west front features two-storey cross-wings and a single-storey main range with an attic lit by a gabled dormer to the right, containing a 3-light 19th-century casement window with a segmental head. To the left of the dormer is a lean-to extension that obscures an entrance. The left cross-wing has a 3-light casement on the first floor and a 2-light casement on the ground floor. The right cross-wing features a 2-light casement on the first floor and a blocked window on the ground floor. The timber framing on the left gable displays four struts to the collar with a V-strut in the apex. The right gable shows the collar and multiple struts above and below it. The interior was not inspected but is likely to contain features of interest.
