Description
Thorn Dene Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It features a timber-frame construction that is partially rendered, with painted brick and rendered infill. There is a later brick extension with a tiled roof. The building is arranged in an L-plan, with a timber wing of two framed bays extending to the west, while the other range to the south is from the 19th century.
The west (rear) elevation includes a gabled timber-framed wing on the left, and to the right, there is a catslide outshut at the back of the 19th-century range. The gabled wing has two storeys and is lit by two 2-light casements, with the entrance located on the east front. The framing is close-studded, and the west gable truss features two collars and curved raking struts in the apex. Additionally, there are remnants of a moat surrounding the house.
