Description

HANBURY CP SCHOOL ROAD (north side) SO 96 SW 3/137 Ice house Cottage and adjoining -wall about 260 yards north-west of Hanbury Hall GV II House and adjoining wall. Mid-C18 with later alterations. Brick, plain tiled roof with two tall brick stacks to south pitch. Two bays aligned east/west. Single storey and attic with dormer and dentilled eaves cornice. Casement windows throughout with cambered heads. East entrance elevation: 2-light ground-floor window and an attic light; entrance to right side has a lean-to tiled canopy on a timber upright, at right angles to the gable end, and a half-glazed door. West gable end has dentilled cornice continuing to gable apex and also end pilasters; ground-floor cross-casement and an attic light. Interior not inspected. Later additions to north elevation. The C18 brick wall adjoining the north-east corner is about 15 feet long and 10 feet high and is included with Ice house Cottage. Ice house Cottage is reputed to have been built as a garden pavilion which may explain the detailing at the west gable end.
