Description

Ice House Cottage and the adjoining wall, located about 260 yards north-west of Hanbury Hall, is a house dating from the mid-18th century with later alterations. The building is constructed of brick and features a plain tiled roof with two tall brick stacks on the south pitch. It has two bays aligned east to west and is a single storey with an attic, which includes a dormer and a cornice with dentilled detailing.

The east entrance elevation has a two-light window on the ground floor and an attic light above. To the right side, there is an entrance with a lean-to tiled canopy supported by a timber upright, positioned at right angles to the gable end, leading to a half-glazed door. The west gable end features a dentilled cornice that continues to the gable apex, along with end pilasters. It has a ground-floor cross-casement window and an attic light. The interior has not been inspected.

There are later additions on the north elevation. The 18th-century brick wall adjoining the north-east corner measures about 15 feet long and 10 feet high and is included with Ice House Cottage. It is believed that Ice House Cottage was originally built as a garden pavilion, which may account for the decorative details at the west gable end.
